After spending far, far too long trying to get Chirp to work on my Mac OSX 10.12, downloading random software, trawling the internet and failing, I had a go at using my Raspberry Pi.

Within 5 minutes, Chirp was installed and the radio spectrum was downloaded, and it all worked faultlessly.

I'd spent hours trying to get my mac to work. I'm considering using the pi for ham stuff only.

A pi can be a handy utensil for programming various radios. The other thing you could do is run a live version of linux on a USB stick.
