TLDR: Make a new "dynamic" effective speed setting in the Lessons, where the speed is started slow and increases as your success rate increases. Instead of entering all the "words" at once it lets you enter them and evaluate them one-at-a-time, and scores the errors for that word as soon as the next word starts. For each successful word, a pleasant "Ding!" is played, but no sound if there are any errors. It will calculate a rolling average score based on the last 5 or so words - and if your score is greater than 85% it will increase the effective speed until you reach your target "max" speed. If your error rate is too high, it will lower the speed back down. Once you hit 90% for your target speed for a certain threshold or the lesson reaches the max timer, the lesson is over and the final score is shown.

Many years ago I was researching EEG Neurofeedback therapy, where people with issues with brain function connect leads from the scalp to the computer, and the computer runs a program that gives "rewards" when certain brainwaves increase/decrease based on the protocol. The threshold for what earns a "reward" is dynamic, and as the brain learns what brainwaves get the reward and repeats it the threshold is raised so the brain has a new goal that it tries to reach. They found the sweet spot is if they set the threshold for about an 85% success rate - if the threshold is set higher the brain gives up because it's too hard, and if it's too low the brain gives doesn't have to try hard enough to get the reward and doesn't really shift the pattern.

I think this might help people find their "sweet spot" where they start out where it might be "easy", but based on their scoring it will gradually increase the speed until it is more challenging and if it gets too fast and they start making too many errors it will down-shift until they get more proficient.

I think this will allow people to gradually work themselves up to the target speed without feeling overwhelmed by jumping right in at a speed they feel overwhelmed by.

This could either be integrated into the Lesson, or extend the Morse Machine to do "words" instead of just characters and do the dynamic effective speed based on error rate.

Re your first post, the lessons are set at the optimum speed for learning, which in itself can be challenging enough without the speed increasing with every correct letter group. Although it's an interesting idea, I personally see no benefit in receiving one single letter group at a time to evaluate. My opinion only, others may disagree.

Re your second post, Word Training has the option to do this already.

I've just recently started my CW journey, and although I'm pretty decent at individual letters, I find that by brain gets scrambled when there are 5 randomly strung together at 20wpm. Honestly, there are several times I think that I'll never be able to handle this.

I've found that at this point, I'm having to dial it back to an "effective" speed of 10wpm and have to bump the "extra word spacing" to about 3x. After several trials I try to crank it up to 11wpm, but it's slow going.

I'm just thinking that for those of us who are slower to pick this up than others, this feature would allow a pace that starts out slow, but as my competency improves it dynamically bumps up so it would allow me to slowly feel more comfortable and try to help me push my limits, but not so much that I want to quit.

I do see that the word training does have a dynamic speed, but that only picks from a language dictionary of the whole alphabet instead of focusing on just the characters of the different lessons in the Koch method. And even then, it seems to be just based on the last word, and not a rolling average. It also doesn't seem to have a max speed, and keeps increasing.

I notice you are on lesson 3 out of 40. This is a little early to be thinking you'll "never be able to handle this" and searching for alternative ways to improve your competency. We've all been there and feel your pain, but the lessons are structured in the most effective way to thoroughly learn CW in as much or as little time as each individual requires. Speed comes much later down the road. At the moment, you sound a bit like someone at their third piano lesson wanting to play Beethoven's 5th. Be kind to yourself, go through the lessons methodically one by one and eventually you will get there - as everyone else who persevered has done. Works pretty well. I'll keep playing with it to see if the 85% threshold keeps my brain stretched but not overwhelmed.
