Posted: 2024-08-15 08:03 | I greatly appreciate this site and I've found tremendous progress in my CW learning journey. Is there a plan to have a mobile friendly version of the site? I bet that large amount is traffic is coming from smartphones. Can we help something in this regard?
Thanks :)

Remember, there is no single solution to learn morse code. A morserino32 may be an option too.

to be honest, the way the site is programmed, there is no straight-forward easy to make it mobile-friendly, at least not for someone who (like me) knows very little about these things.
Of course, the site is open source and I am very interested in collaborating with people who have the right skills to push this forward.

Regardless, the site is super helpful andI thank you for it :)

Feel free to contact me.

Posted: 2024-08-29 18:25 | It'd be great to see some initiative on this and I am open to accepting PRs.
Starting today I have two weeks of vacation so I will be quite responsive if you have any questions (by email or xmpp - fabian@fkurz.net) or on IRC (dj5cw on libera).

how to create a PR if we do not have access to git repo? or do I miss something?
PS: thank you so much for developing this project! without it, I would not have started CW ;)

Posted: 2024-08-30 13:08 | Really, all that is needed is a dedicated CSS for mobile pages, and a bit of javascript to do browser sniffing. A complete rewrite of the page is not needed.
|
Posted: 2024-08-30 22:51 | First of all: we need to define what we want: some simple CSS that makes the site responsive doesn't solve the usability issues on mobile devices.
My suggestion: define a person or a group that is in charge of deciding what should be done. This person / group discusses the changes they want whit a fabian, georgi and me (and other devs who want to join); the 'dev team', supervised by fabian, start developing ;)

If you think you can improve, check out a local copy with git, make changes and submit a push request. If Fabian is happy with it, he'll accept it and the code will go into master.

Posted: 2024-09-02 20:10 | Agree with oc. Thats the nice thing about open source! I too would like an easier way of using this site than taking my laptop with me :-D
Not a frontend dev by any means but I like to tinker. I have forked the repo and will see what I can do and when there is something worthwhile will submit a PR along with some screenshots.

Posted: 2024-09-03 01:07 | Initial work in progress idea for a responsive design with minimal changes to existing content/layout. This mostly just gets the menus out of the way on mobile. Still need to do more testing locally and make sure native mobile keyboard is usable as expected. I guess you could redesign the key entry mode entirely for mobile devices (instead of using mobile keyboard) but I wanted to start really simple. Comments here or on the PR welcome.

Posted: 2024-09-24 22:07 | I applaud the desire to expand this platform to an app. However, I have used this website solely on my mobile phone. If the only reason for going through the trouble is to be able to use LCWO on your phone then open the website on your phone. If offline learning is what you're after then an app makes more sense.

Posted: 2024-09-24 22:59 | I use the site on a phone but with a Bluetooth keyboard, partly because I can't use the on screen keyboard with sufficient precision with my poorly functioning fingers and also some characters such as = and / need a long press with on screen keyboard.
