I wanted to get the community's feed back on some of the better Morse Code keys. I'm thinking of the straight type. Where would the best place in the U.S. to purchase a key?

I got a vintage J-38 since I liked the idea of having something historic! Seems to work pretty well, but I don't have a point of comparison. I was considering one of the keys from cwmorse.us as well, they seem reasonably priced for a first key.

Depends how much money you have to spend . .

These are very good - if you get one that's working ok . .

YMMV of course, but if you wait for a deal you can re-sell for similar

** watch out for people selling only binding post covers, handle components and bases - not an actual key **

Ebay has a lot of used keys from time to time.
I think one of the nicest of the several I found was a straight key by KENT.
I have several J-38 models, and have hooked them up to my MFJ-557 Code Oscillator for practice.
I like the models that sit on a heavy platform for stability. Usually when I get a used key, I find that I need to run a thin strip of fine sandpaper between the contact points to get a good electrical connection. The key is the one thing that will will not go for low price on.
Here is one that looks pretty good:
