I found a few videos on youtube, but I dont have an elmer to tell me which ones are doing it correctly.

I had the same question. After reading quite a bit through google I came to the conclusion that there is really no right or wrong. It boils down to what is comfortable for you.
The only consistent bad thing is slapping the key.
Just hold it in whatever way allows you to maintain good control.

straight key: ellbow on table when possible

use the wrist (handgelenk) for the dahs, and fingers for the dits. If you dont rest your ellbow you will risk hurting bodyparts and also your fist will sound dodgier with a floating ellbow. I learned it this way from a german navy/german merchant navy operator teaching on the volkshochschule in hamburg, germany - and teh result was that when i got to the navy a few years later i was best in class for my fist as well as reading. I didnt not bother to check the various youtube links.. i assume most people who do longer QSOs (ragchewer, rather than contester) have found a way that works for them.

following is a good video from a japanese operator, with only the mistake of his floating ellbow.
(its much harder to send accurate and long sentences at decent speeds this way)
