I am working with my 31/40 lesson (20/10 wpm) and I have to say: real pain right from the start :D but I have strictly followed Koch's rule. I did not jump into next lesson before more than 90 % was right and guess Mr. Koch really knows something about subconscious mind.

Something magical is really happening. I was listening 10 m today and I had quick moments when I was able to "see" short words, repeat the sound quickly in my mind without so much panic with writing.

Tried also morsemachine with 45 wpm (50 was maybe too much) so the "magic" is not the speed which I was always afraid of. It's more about sound patterns and what happens automatically in your mind after hearing each letter. Interesting really.

But, still long way to go.. 9 lessons left. :I

Hi Mika,

did you actually start learning when you signed up? 31 lessons in 15 days is quite impressive, and I guess towards the end, acquiring new characters is getting easier.

Don't give up, and I am looking forward to work you on the bands in the near future!

I have passed my 8 wpm amateur exam 16 years ago (now 36) but been without cw since then. I just had my first, very slow cw qsos few weeks ago but it was more like testing my equipment and antenna.

Germany is close. Got with 40w 5nn from Hungary "ur rst 5nn 73 tu ee" and I was sweating after that painful experience with my straight key.. hi :D

Many thanks! Great site!

I will never give up. 35/40.. way too much didah.. I also had one, a bit longer cw qso with one Italian station today. Maybe not my finest cw fist moments but I survived. :D

Excellent, Mika. It's the best thing you can do: Just get on the air as early as possible.

I need to repair my antenna here at home. In the last months, my activity was limited to the club station only, which mostly meant working in the contests during the weekend. But I need some more "normal" QSOs again...

73, and good luck with the last 5 lessons!

Ok! It took 581 attempts and 16 days to finish all 40 lessons. Guess Koch's brute force really works!

I have to say I am now a bit exhausted and definitely I need a beer or two after this morse misery. :D

I started on 1 st of September, but maybe just played first two days with letters M and K to get 100 % result but on 3 rd of Sep I decided to do one lesson each day. Things just started to go much faster than I expected.

All lessons were difficult, one lesson required 84 attempts :D but I didn't give up. I also didn't much care about the results I made. Just forced myself over the 90 % line and took next lesson one after another. When things started to go down I took a break and tried again later.

Ok. Maybe I keep on hanging here and I might try to speed up things etc.

Thanks again! Danke!

Well.. was it just pure luck the last one? Some lessons are randomly easier than the others.

I need to keep on practicing to get the average close to 100%. Can't leave it like this. :)

i'm still trying to get past lesson 3 (;
Though i have not practiced that steady so it is my own fault.

I use a 18 wpm speed with 16 wpm spaces and a tone at 642Hz.

I passed a 30cpm about 14 years ago.
My downside back then was that i counted, but at 18/16 wpm it sounds more like "speak" than counting.

642Hz, very reasonable! ;-)

18wpm/16wpm sounds good, spaces short enough to make sure you're not cheating yourself by counting between the characters!
