Hello again, another question about learning CW. Getting better, now at lesson 9, although I'm not sure whether I should focus mostly on Koch method or word training. I feel like I do prefer shorter, more concise format of word training instead of long and drawn out exercises with Koch but not sure and I'm hoping to get an answer from more experienced people. Thanks in advance

It's quite simple. You need to do both. And you need to do it a lot. Don't give up. If you're able to learn all 40 characters and are at lesson 40 the learning only begins. Then you try to build up your speed. If you're a fast learner and have some feeling for it you can learn it in a few months. For me personally it will take years. But most important is to learn at least 15 minutes a day, every day. And again.... don't give up.

Another noob here. I've been using the morse machine to kind of warm up. I prefer the word training because it feels less stressful and on the spot, but you definitely miss out on some of the letters.
I've found setting the lesson practice to a longer time makes it more learning and less stressful. Thats just me!

For many of us this has been a long journey, but a very rewarding one. Stay steady and do at least 15 minutes a day. Try and keep the speed up to a reasonable level because learning at the higher speeds will assist you later in your journey to gain even more speed if desired. Word training is very useful, but so is Morse Machine as their is no rythm or reason to the the next character you are about to hear which makes it more challenging. There are many tools for CW that are helpful but it is important to focus on learning all 40 characters. If you have any questions there a lot of people on this forum willing to help in anyway we can. Best of luck!

Hi Wojciech

About 15 months ago, I started learning CW. My circumstances aren't ideal, as I'm 71 years old. I learned all the characters using the Koch method on this website. For me, the 40 lessons and MorseMachine has been very helpful in recognizing the characters. I continue practicing with MorseMachine, code groups, and callsign training.

A month ago, I completed the CWOps Fundamentals course, and in May I'll start the Intermediate course.

Today, I'm making my first CW QSOs at a speed of 25/13. I'm still not comfortable making QSOs in CW. I still have a lot to learn. I sometimes miss parts of the exchange or I make mistakes when sending CW, but I feel quite satisfied at this stage.

As other hams have said, the secret is not to give up and to keep working. Although progress may seem slow at times, looking back over time, I can confidently say that the improvements are evident—even at an advanced age like mine.

Stay encouraged Wojciech! You'll make it
