I find it important that when working with HST; that when you find something that works to not fiddle with it too much. Early on when working with speeds at 80wpm, I discovered that when I turned the volume way down to let the ears really work hard that after about five minutes; I then would turn the volume up to a nice level that I was copying callsigns with a higher success rate. I always start out this way when I practice. Not only am I teaching my ears “muscle memory”, I am also re-wiring my brain to copy at higher speeds. Around 72wpm, I always feel my brain makes a momentary transition to the higher speeds and I am good until around 95wpm, around that speed there is another hiccup.

Yup, lowed the volume and tone (from about 700 to 550) and in one session went from 40/20 to 60/20 for most symbols(still do have to print text unfortunately of I loose train of thought).

I'm going to reduce the 60 to 50, and work on bringing up the word spacing. I've also noticed that not trying to immediately scratch down the symbol but give yourself a slight pause somehow must reduce stress and I do better - its clearly NOT what you would say is copying behind, but leaning a little in that direction.
