How does LCWO.net calculate the real speed? I have set my character speed as 16WPM and effective speed at 15WPM. My practise duration is of 1 minute. After each session, I get the below reading.
Groups: 10 (50 characters), Errors: 0 = 0%
Real speed: 50 characters / 61.9 seconds = 9.7 WPM / 48.4 cpm

The real speed is taken as 61.9 seconds. How is this time reading taken? I generally note down the characters in a book and then type it into the text box and check results.

Hi, do you mean that 61.9 seconds is not correct? And that you have timed with a stopwatch to verify that? I have never checked the time, i've just assumed that it is correct.

Amount of characters in the groups will affect the effective WPM due to due to amount of gaps. Remember there is a factor in settings with delay between words (Extra Word Spacing:) that impact the amount of characters sent in your defined period (1 minute). Setting this factor to 1 should possibly give you a effective WPM closer to 15 WPM. I normally use 5 character group, and 2 as a factor to allow for time to punch in on the keyboard directly.

Thanks. I was a bit confused as the overall speed was shown as 9.7 WPM even though my character speed was 16WPM and effective speed was 15WPM. I was wondering if the real speed was considering the time, I took to type in all the characters and then clicking on the check results button.
