Q. While practicing if I am not concentrating on the lesson and I am relaxed I have 100% accuracy.
If I start to concentrate I start making mistakes. Why is that?
A. This is expected. Decoding should be done unconsiously. Once you start analyzing the sound you are wasting time and can not keep up with decoding.
We want Instant Character Recognition without thought... This comes with practice and repetition.

Q. I am catching myself decoding and then mechanically typing the key on the keyboard.
How do you head copy if you do not realize what you have just typed?
A. We do not want to associate the sound of a letter with muscle memory (i.e. pressing a key).
We want to associate the sound of a letter with a visual image of that letter popping up in our head.
Try to decode entire groups of 5 letters in your head and then quickly type them.
You can use the pause button to pause the practice after each group of 5 if you are not fast at typing.

Q. Why do we train with groups of 5 letters?
A. The average English word is 5 letters long so we train with groups of 5.
If you can head decode random groups of 5 you can practically head decode every English word!

Q. After about 1 minute and 30 seconds I start making mistakes.
Usually at the begining of the practice session I am perfect. Why is that?
A. That is why at the begining we try to keep our sessions at just 1 minute.
More than that and the human mind gets tired... and starts thinking laterally...
i.e. other staff in parallel... to entertain itself...
Unconsious decoding is a repetitive task and the human mind is not built for repetition but for creativeness...

Q. I am doing great. Can I advance a few lessons?
A. Do not rush it... make sure you master each lesson before advancing.
We need Instant Character Recognition.
Try to head decode groups of 5 letters first.
Early in the lessons when we are dealing with just a few letters this should be easier.
It is important that you grasp the concept of head decoding early on. (learn to use the pause button)

Q. I messed up my session and I need to reset but I do not want to mess up my statistics.
How do I go about it?
A. No worries just press the Check Result button twice to verify your results (just so you know how you did)
Then visit the homepage find your attempt and delete it by pressing the X button.
