Hello,

here's a little new function for the forums to play with, inspired by a recent thread where users "chatted" by uploading Morse code MP3s on their servers. Why not use LCWO's own "weapons" for this?

You can now embed a CW player in a forum post with the following syntax (minus the space in [ cw]):

[ cw]Hello[/cw]

results in

char. speed: eff. speed: Tone: Extra Word Spacing:

You can change the parameters "speed", "eff"(ective speed), "ews" (extra word spacing) and "freq" like so:

[ cw speed=40 eff=10 ews=5 freq=999]This sounds weird![/cw]

char. speed: eff. speed: Tone: Extra Word Spacing:

Hope it is useful - have fun!

Fabian

[ cw speed=26 eff=26 ews=0 freq=650] What a marvelous idea.[/cw]

I can only play the embedded audio files once. When it gets to the end, it's stuck at the end.

foggycoder: I tried with Firefox and Chrome, and on both I could replay the file once it got to the end (the "play" button turns into a "pause" button while it plays and then returns to "play" at the end).

bergler: I set the preload="auto" property for the audio tag. Maybe this helps?

Fabian: Using Chrome, I've tried several files in the posts above but all are the same - they play (with a pause button) till the end when the file stops with a play button. So far, so good.

But if I then click the play button, nothing happens.
And if I drag the time slider back to the beginning (time 0:00) and then click the play button, it jumps straight to the end without playing.

I've tried it with my Microsoft Edge browser and it works fine, so it appears to be an issue with my Chrome browser.

Is it just me or is anyone else having this issue?

Cannot reproduce this with Chrome here.

For testing, I removed the option to play the file in OGG/Vorbis format and now only MP3 is offered to the browser. I noticed that Chrome picks OGG by default, Firefox picks MP3.

Does this make any difference?

Success!
You are a genius, Fabian.

BTW this function works in the personal messages too.

And to make use of the cw function, I started a qrs chat thread here:

When the recorded message is too slow or too fast, go with your mouse pointer to the black audioplaying strip. Press right mouse button, chose copy audio location, go to the URL (Internet address) window of your browser, click there and past with control-V the audio location. In the url you can edit there the speed and other play back parameters.

Example:https://cgi2.lcwo.net/cgi-bin//cw.mp3?s=20&e=20&f=600&t=hitting%20the%20browser%20refresh%20allows%20replay%2073

Change s=20 to desired speed.

I do not know wether this option has been available before, or it is new, but right click and choose speed is more convenient.

This is a function provided by the browser, but it doesn't give you many freedoms.

Instead, I just added a possibility to change the values for each embedded CW snippet, as you can see in the examples above.

I think you're onto a winner here, Fabian. This latest functionality gives us the opportunity to converse in morse at a speed that we can each understand, and to replay the message if we don't catch it the first time.
