In Austria the morse telegraphy exam requires 60 chars per minute (see url below).

What character speed and effective speed in words per minute should I use to train for that?

Is it 60/5=12wpm for both?

thanks

yes 12/12 on this website. 12 wpm in general PARIS standard which is 12*50 dits in 60 second. hence 10 dits/s that is 5 dots/second, nearly 12 consecutive dashes in 5 second.

alright, thanks a lot!

looks like that'll take a while... i'm currently at lecture 10 with 15 / 5wpm. 12 / 12wpm seems quite a bit harder to follow... :/

It sounds strange, but try 20/5, and keep writing if you miss a letter. It will train you not to "count dots". Hope it helps, cheers!
