I have finished lessons 1 - 40. It took me about 10 months. I've been practicing 6 days per week. Char speed = 17, Eff speed = 10, group length fixed at 5, dur = 1 minute. I chose 17/10 because it was as fast as I could write down the letters by hand.

I am now practicing lesson 40 using random length groups plus doing word and call sign training at 17/10.

Thanks to Fabian and this great site. I don't think I could have learned it any other way at the age of 61.

I should add that I practice a half-hour per day.

mni congrats Steve

Now go on cranking 17 down and 10 up till you reach 13/13 may even be 14/14 that is about the same writing speed (and the same throughput you have with 17/10) as real Morse code. Proceed with 16/11 15/12 14/13 after that 14/14

Congratulations Steve! I envy your achievement. I am still in the middle of things, but making progress. I look forward to the day that I can say I have completed lesson 40.

Do you have any plans for sending practice? Do you plan to learn with a straight key or paddle?

Take a look at a side swiper. When you grow older it is the easiest key to learn to master and the key you can use for the longest time when your control of hand movements are becoming less sharp with growing age.

I have a straight key but haven't used it yet. Will consider other types of keys. Most advice is to start with a straight key, but at my age maybe another type is better.

I reset my speed to 15/15 and am trying that out. i can feel the subtle difference in the spacing of the letters.

Thanks for everyone's encouragement and advice.

Start with the kind of key you intend to use...
