I hesitate to ask DJ1YFK the following question.

In word training you can watch statistics of your own performance over time. That give a lot of deviation.

That deviation should be cleaned of random wordlength results.

So when every next word should have the same length, coupled to the word position in the sequence op 25 words, the graph should show better the personal performance increasing over time than it is doing right now.

For that reason I propose to give a fixed worth length to each of the 25 positions in word training.

Sincerely Yours,

I like word training at random word lengths for various reasons. However, I am not opposed to the idea of a fixed length training session as long as it is optional. Preferences will differ with each user. Therefore, making it optional should please all.

N0SSS I am afraid I was not clear enough in my proposal.

Mij proposal is that in the field of 25 random words the length is still random, but fixed for each position.

Example : word 1 random text but ALWAYS 6 characters, word 2 random text but ALWAYS 11 characters and so on.

That makes the result per session independent of the total number of characters in the session, and it will not be necessary to give an option to the user because you don't realise it happens.

It improves the statistics for the guys that use variable speed during the session and also for the guys that use fixed speed.

When it is implementen you should not realise it, but the statistics will yield a much better picture of your progress over time.

It is easy to implement it in the software.

I understand now. I think this is an excellent idea. In order to increase the randomization, in reference to your example, I would have word 1, which is 6 characters long, appear in a different spot in the list with each session. Thus, the 6 character length word may appear as word 1 in the first session or as word 17 in the second session. This approach would track progress better.

I still prefer that training options always be increased rather than decreased for the user. For instance, I occasionally enjoy practice sessions starting 20 wpm above my fastest reading ability and ending 5 wpm below. For this, I set the maximum word length to about 5. This causes a low score but I am not concerned because 1) I am challenging myself to learn and 2) I can delete the score to normalize the statistics and 3) It is very fun! Would i still be able to do this with your proposal?

What you propose keeps only the total number of characters in a 25-word exercise constant.

That makes it better, for sure, because the total possible score is right now due to the fact the total number of characters is variable about plus or minus 20% of the average in the language I use.
But when you exercise with variable speed, hence
when the speed is not constant, and a long word is at a low position, and hence a short word in a high position it yields less total score, then opposite because the score is wordlength times speed. So that introduces still a variation you don't want to clutter up your graphs.

ldb - fabian is very busy right now, possibly Vincent F 0 C Y A could answer ur question since he also is very good at writing morse code software. i think users of this website demand too much of fabian while other users on this site have knowledge also to anser question - thankyou
