Posted: 2011-02-14 19:46 | Hi,
first of all i'm not very good in english. My problem is that i can not write as fast as should to copy all letters. At the moment i practise charachter speed 20 and total speed 10. In the beginning it went well until lesson 18 with settings 20/4. Then i noticed that i count dots and dashes and i desided to increase speed to 20/10. I started from the lesson 1 and now i can't anymore count but i'm to slow writer. I can't copy one letter after computer and that's why i'm in hurry. Thank you very much if somebody can give tips. With best regards Markku Pirila |

if you're faster when you write the code groups down instead of using the computer keyboard, it might be a good idea to do it. It's some additional work to check the result then, but the ultimate goal is to learn Morse code, not to type quickly. That said, maybe using the MorseMachine a little more might be helpful to get acquainted with the keyboard a little better. Dare to set the character speed "pretty high", maybe even 30wpm, to make quite sure that you're not able to count dits and dahs anymore. 73 Fabian DJ1YFK |

Posted: 2011-02-15 19:56 | As a matter of fact, I meant writing letters down to the paper. With the keyboard it is even worse. I use only one finger with the keyboard and locating every button is very slow (for example when letter 'p' comes after letter 'a'). obviously I have to start learning the "two finger system" hi! What you think if I increase the character speed to 23 and keep the effective speed in 4 or 5 and writing down?

Your proposal is perfect. |

I am sorry but I disagree with you. Touch typing is a skill that you have to learn completely separate, when you want to learn that. Otherwise you end up with your fingers on the wrong keys, every finger has its own dedicated task, you know. Furthermore you don't hardly use the shift key in morse decoding. ():?,@ thats it, so you better forget that, otherwise you spoil your ability to learn touch typing in the right way. |

We can agree to disagree, hi hi, but no one "wants" to learn touch typing. That's why the carrot of putting code down quicker is a good opportunity. I'm entering the code practice while looking out the window at our winter storm. Now that's learnin! ;-) -bill in Santa Cruz |

No problems occured whatsoever, only advantages. Need the shift key for / here but so what? Plus I am not distracted anymore by looking for keys. Would recommend to give it a try. Gerd. |
