There seems to be some a miscalculation in the lesson length. My settings are 23/20 for 5 minutes. The Transmission prefix/suffix is also turned on. The actual lesson runs over 6 1/2 minutes. I can understand a small overrun but 1 1/2 minutes seems to be a bit too much.

Bill when you do that and set the group length fixed to 5 you get 100 groups. The idea is obviously that 100 groups of 5 is 100 words and that in 5 minutes makes 20 wpm.

Only in higher numbered lessons (40) you get signs like 0, / ? and = these take more time than average.

Conclusion: When you should really copy 20 wpm = 100 cpm., you should have finished the lesson in exactly 5 minutes.

Digibeet,

I forgot to mention I am on lesson 40 and I'm using variable length groups too.

I guess you are saying that the total number of characters sent should take 5 minutes if it were plain text with just a few numbers and punctuation thrown in.

I was expecting a 5 minute lesson to run for 5 minutes plus the prefix and suffix time regardless of the character speed or spacing.
In other words, code is sent until the clock hits 5 minutes, that's all.

I know this is a nit and I'm taking up too much of your valuable time. You have a wonderful, site. I do use it regurarly to increase my proficiency. However I think others may be confused by the time difference too.

Thanks again for a wonderful site. I sincerely mean that.

Bill,

First of all: I am not DJ1YFK, I don't know why you suggest that.

Secondly, You are right, no doubt: I fully agree, an exercise of 5 minutes has to take 5 minutes. That I took fixed length in the test by figuring out was just lazy to ease character counting. Minor importance if any.

I was only figuring out what the reason could be and I made a reasonable proposal about that.

The point is that when you say I am able to copy 20 wpm or 100 cpm, you should really say I am able to copy morse code by ear, with a baudrate of 16,6 baud.

When you say 20 wpm, meant is average plain english language, and when you insert numbers and punctuation signs, the 20 wpm = 100 cpm takes significant longer than 1 minute. 30% according to your measurement (6,5 instead of 5 minutes)

Afterall: your proposal is to sent for 5 minutes, even if the 500 characters are not finished.
That means that DJ1YFK has to make a random sequence of characters as he did already, but also have to make a table of the total length or duration of each character in order to limit the number of characters to match the chosen exercise time duration.

That is easy to program but I can onderstand that when you have a long list of things to do, that it has a pretty low priority. Especially because people that notice the effect can choose 3 instead of 5 minutes excercation time.

But "Es ist ein Schoenheitsfehler" sure it is.

This site is the first that I wake up to every morning with my cup of coffee.

Since I have been on it now for 2 months, my corporate profits have also increased along with my cw speed.

I love it!

Digibeet,

I thought you would enjoy that.

Take care; thanks for your help. I am on my way to 60 wpm here soon.
