I am wondering why this = sign is on hear. It sounds like -...- to me, but I can find no visual verification anywhere. It is not on the international list of dit's and da's that I could find.

Yes it is -...- It is the old symbol for "newline" or "new paragraph" when sending a telegram.
It's commonly used between sections of a conversation in CW.

This is actually the Break Prosign. Commonly written as BK with a line over it.
